What to do first

One step at a time

What happens in the first hours and days depends on where they died. Choose below, and take it at your own pace.

Where did they die?

Was it expected?

You can call us at any point, even just to ask what comes next.

  1. 1

Call their GP, or 111 out of hours

A doctor or nurse comes to confirm the death. There is no rush. Sit with them for as long as you need.

  2. 2

Call us, whenever you are ready

Day or night, a person answers. We come to the house, usually within two hours, and bring them into our care.

  3. 3

    The medical certificate

Their doctor writes the medical certificate and a medical examiner reviews it. This usually takes a few days, and it is sent to the registrar for you.

  4. 4

Register the death within 5 days

Book an appointment at the register office. The registrar can tell most government departments for you, through the Tell Us Once service.

  5. 5

    Plan the funeral with us

At your home or ours, in your own time. You have a written estimate before anything is decided.

For my wife, Moortown

"When my wife died at home, they came within the hour and were so gentle with her. Every question I had, at any hour, somebody answered."

Mohan PatelMoortown

For my brother, Pudsey

"We chose a direct cremation, then held his party at the cricket club he loved. The price on the website was exactly the price we paid."

Questions

What families ask us

If your question is not here, call us. There is no such thing as a silly one.

Call us

No. You can choose any funeral director you like, whenever you are ready. Tell the hospital or home you have chosen us, and we do the rest.

Usually two to three weeks after the death, depending on the crematorium or church. Where faith asks for a funeral sooner, we always do everything we can.

Yes. You are welcome in our chapel of rest by appointment, as often as you like.

A cremation with no service on the day. We look after everything, return the ashes to you, and you can say goodbye later in your own way.
