How we design

Every garden starts as a drawing like this

A real plan for a 14 m garden behind a Victorian terrace in Battersea. Tap a number to see what it is, why it is there, and what it cost.

Artificial grass

Green in February, and never muddy

The three grasses we trust, each fitted by our own team on a drained base. We bring samples to the design visit so you can feel them.

Close up of a short, dense, bright artificial grass

30 mm pile

Mayfair

Short and dense, for terraces, roof gardens and play areas.

£65 a m² fitted

Close up of a medium length artificial grass with a few brown fibres

35 mm pile

Richmond

Our most chosen. Soft underfoot, and it looks freshly mown all year.

£72 a m² fitted

Close up of a long artificial grass with brown thatch fibres

40 mm pile

Hampstead

Long and lush, with a brown thatch so it still looks real in winter.

£79 a m² fitted

Reviews

London gardens, lived in

Design and build, Clapham

"We had a muddy strip behind a Victorian terrace. Now we eat outside from April, and the kitchen feels twice the size."

Sophie GrantClapham

Artificial grass, Walthamstow

"Two dogs and a north facing garden meant mud all winter. The new lawn drains in minutes, and the dogs seem happier too."

Arjun PatelWalthamstow

Planting plan, Highgate

"The planting plan told me exactly what went where, and why. Two summers on, the border looks better every year."

Questions

Before your design visit

The things London clients ask first.

Call the studio

Our design fee is 1,450 pounds for most London gardens, and we take it off the build price if we build it for you.

Six to ten weeks for most gardens, depending on the size of the terrace and whether there is a garden room.

Rarely. A garden room under 2.5 m tall near a boundary is normally permitted development, and we check conservation areas and listed buildings first.

It can get warm in full sun, so we suggest it where there is some shade. Our base drains fast, and a hose down keeps it fresh.

Yes. Most of our builds are our own designs, but we are happy to price a plan drawn by someone else.
