What Manchester says

Homeowners, a landlord and one very relieved letting agent.

Consumer unit, Didsbury

Our old fuse box kept tripping every time the kettle and the oven were on together. New consumer unit in, certificate emailed before they left, and the house has not tripped once since.

Sarah WhitlockDidsbury

Full rewire, Chorlton

They rewired our 1930s semi while we lived in it. Dust sheets every morning, everything hoovered every night, and the plasterer said it was the neatest chasing he had seen.

Tom KeenanChorlton

Fourteen EICRs, Salford

Fourteen EICRs across my portfolio in one week, every certificate emailed the same day and the two failures priced clearly. It is the first time certificates have not been a headache.

05Who turns up

Six electricians. No subcontractors.

Dan Hartley started Lumenfield in 2009 with one van and a rule that still stands: whoever quotes the job is on the job. Every electrician is employed, NICEIC assessed and carries the same test kit, so the work and the paperwork look the same whoever you get.

06Questions

Before you book

Including the ones that save you a call out. Anything else, ring the office and you will get an electrician, not a call centre.

Call the office

Yes. Every notifiable job goes through the scheme to building control, and you get the certificate and the notification letter for your records.

Most Manchester houses come in between 650 and 850 pounds, fitted, tested and certified. It depends on the number of circuits and whether the earthing needs upgrading, which we check at the survey.

Often not. If the wiring is PVC and tests well, a new board and a few extra circuits is usually enough. Rubber or fabric insulated cable, or no earth on the lighting, means it is time.

Usually, for a fault. Ring before midday and we will try to get to you that afternoon. If the house has no power at all it becomes the first job of the day.

Yes, and we can do a whole portfolio in one week. Each EICR is emailed the same day, and anything coded C1 or C2 is priced separately so you can decide.
